We've just launched our Facebook page . . . well, actually we launched a "Page" and a "Group". Both have distinct advantages, and as of a few weeks ago, both have some disadvantages. I'll explain that in more detail, but here are the links to the Page and the Group.

We originally set up a Group, and expected to see the same options as a similar group for the Fremont 4th of July Parade. Unfortunately, a lot of features have been removed from Facebook Groups recently. If you compare the parade Group to ours, you'll notice some striking differences. On ours, there are no tabs at the top for Info, Discussion, Photos, Video, or Events. The only thing Groups have retained is a stream of Wall posts. Not exactly the kind of dynamic presence that was previously available (and still is for older Groups). The one positive thing that Facebook kept in Groups are Members, similar to the Friends on regular individual Profiles. And just like friends, you can invite people to be members of your Group, and Facebook users can ask to join your group.

Fortunately, most of the lost features of Groups is still available in Pages. Unfortunately, inviting Members and chatting with them is not possible. The only way to add people to your Page is if they "Like" you, by clicking the Like button on your Page, or on your website.

So at the moment, we have both a Page and a Group on Facebook. Check them out, Join or Like us, and stay connected with us.
